Swiss School System

The schooling period in Switzerland amounts to 12 years. A primary education for 6 years is followed by education 2 levels of education: the first level terminates after 9 years of mandatory education, the second level is comparable to the A-levels in the USA and terminates with a Matura. The Matura is the entry ticket for the university.

If you are looking for an appropriate education from the age of 6 until 19 years of age you can select one of the following schools:

  • Gymnasium
  • High school
  • Primary school
  • Secondary school

The following school certificates are released after successful accomplishment:

  • Swiss Matura
  • German Abitur (after 12 years at school)
  • American High School Diploma
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • French Baccalaureate
